A well balanced diet is the ideal way to support a pregnancy and give your baby the best start in life. As your baby grows, each cell will be built using nutrients from the food that you have consumed. For this reason, what you choose to eat now can have a profound impact upon how your baby develops both within the womb and as they grow up. Your diet can also influence your health during and after the pregnancy.
This workshop gives you the opportunity to learn about nutrition and pregnancy in a social setting with other mothers. Elspeth Stewart, the workshop leader, will provide insight into why certain foods are beneficial for you and your baby and why other foods are best enjoyed in moderation. You will also receive recipe ideas and suggestions on how to adopt healthy eating principles into busy lives and existing families. Many of the principles discussed are applicable to all the family so what you learn on the day will be useful during pregnancy and beyond.
The standard food safety advice given during pregnancy (avoiding unpasteurised dairy, raw egg, pate, etc) is still valid and will be discussed but this workshop focuses in on nutrition for optimal health.
Workshop topics will vary depending on the needs of the group. Topics include:
