MA(Hons), BSc(Hons) Nutritional Therapy

I believe food should be a great source of pleasure and has an important role in bringing people and families together. I was lucky to grow up in a household where we all ate together at least once a day and I have strived to continue this tradition in my own family. I live in West London and have two sons at primary school.

My interest in the link between food and health was sparked by a diagnosis at twenty-three of Type 1 Diabetes. Since then I have become all too aware of the impact the food we eat has on our health, energy levels and overall wellbeing. Through Nutritional Therapy I have found a way to manage diabetes without feeling deprived of certain foods, or scared about my long-term health outcomes.

My first degree was in Spanish at Edinburgh University where I qualified with a First Class Honours degree in 1995. I then went to live and work in Colombia for six months before coming back to study for a post-graduate diploma in Refugee Studies at Oxford University. Following this I worked for six years in the voluntary sector as a senior co-ordinator and negotiator between refugee charities and the Home Office.

Following the birth of my second child I decided to train as a Nutritional Therapist in order to combine my interest in food and health with family life. Studying Nutritional Therapy has taught me the science behind how influential diet and lifestyle are - whether managing a chronic condition such as diabetes, or in relation to everyday health, energy and wellbeing. If you need help making your diet right for whatever reason, we look forward to seeing you in clinic.
