Increase your happiness today

Written by

Happiness! Is it over there?

For many of us the notion of happiness is tied to success.  If I work harder, I’ll be more successful and once I am successful, I will be happy.  That is of course, once we’ve finished our degree, got that job, that promotion, have the dream house, find the partner…  With this way of thinking, we never get there – once a goal is reached, the goal posts are moved and happiness is still over there, in the future somewhere.  But it doesn't have to be that way...

Brussels sprouts and tofu stir-fry

This is a delicious, vegetarian meal, not difficult to make. Read the recipe through to the end before you begin. Anyone who says they don't like Brussel sprouts or tofu will most probably change their mind after trying this.

Not long ago Janet wrote a series of articles on cancer, following the release of the figure 4 in 10 Britons will get cancer in their lifetime. Following on from this a further study has just been published in the British Journal of Cancer, relating specifically to the different risk factors associated with cancer. There are some surprising findings and you will learn some interesting tips for cancer prevention if you read on.

Boost your omega 3 power

Written by

Most of us know that omega 3s are good for us and that they support brain health, eye health and cardiovascular health.  Omega 3 also plays a very important role in regulating the immune system’s inflammatory response.  If you don’t suffer from any inflammatory conditions (for example, eczema, joint inflammation or asthma) it might be easy to think that ‘inflammation’ is not applicable to you… but think again.

The Food Hospital on Channel 4

Written by

Have you been watching The Food Hospital?

Channel 4 is showing an eight-part series on Tuesday nights at 8pm called The Food Hospital. So far we have seen two episodes of this exciting new programme, showing not only how powerful foods can be in alleviating symptoms of painful conditions such as IBS, migraines, and psoriasis, but also in reducing risk factors for premature death in people with uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease.

In July I talked about how dietary change can lower cancer risk.  This was in response to the latest statistics which show 40% of Britons are expected to get cancer in their lifetime. In the second part of my blog I focus on how hormone disruption and exposure to environmental oestrogens may also pose a cancer threat and what you can do to help reduce your risk.

Do you have a food allergy?

Written by

Our July/August online poll revealed that over 2/3 of respondents suspect or know that a particular food does not agree with them.  Do you suspect you have a problem with certain foods?  You may have  even been told that you don't have a food allergy but still feel that some foods are affecting you. This blog explores the different ways that our bodies can react adversly to foods - it's not all about allergies......

A recent study showed that when dieters put weight back on (as they often do) they end up with more fat than they originally lost and with less muscle.  This has important consequences for our long term health goals.  How can it be avoided?scales-weighing-HELP

vegetables reduce cancer riskResearchers from Macmillan Cancer Support have revised their previous figures and now predict that 4 in 10 Britons will get caner in their lifetime - (The Guardian - 14 July 2011).  This is a shocking statistic and we really should be asking ourselves why figures are rising and what we can do to minimise our risk?. Read the article and then my comments – the first in a series which discusses what you can do to reduce your risk of becoming one of those four.

Key Nutrition invite you to an open evening this Thursday the 30th June at the beautiful Six Senses Spa in Canary Wharf.
